  1. What’s the most unique part about working at Paradise Dermatology?

The sense of community that comes with working at Paradise Dermatology is one of the things I enjoy most. From the front desk to the clinical teams to the management, we work closely together to ensure our patients receive the best possible care. Our team is very friendly and welcoming, and I never feel as if I have to be shy to ask questions or introduce new ideas to the team because we all get along and support each other. I am very fortunate to work with an exceptional team.

  1. What inspired you to begin a career in healthcare?

I have always been drawn to healthcare from an early age, even when I was just a child. My career started as a speech therapist in NICUs, where I worked with dysphagia for many years. I moved to the U.S. in 2007 from my native country of Brazil and soon after that, my family faced some serious health problems. During my loved ones' hospitalizations, I witnessed nurses' compassion, knowledge, and care, which convinced me that nursing is my true calling. They weren't just concerned with providing physical care, but they also often comforted me. I wanted to be that comfort for other people. I knew then it was time to further my education and pursue my dream to be a nurse, which I did.

  1. Who motivates you to be your very best?

I grew up in a very caring family and remember my parents always being ready to help any person around us whenever they needed help. I admire their generosity and willingness to go the extra mile. They are my biggest motivation to give my best every single day. It is also through my kiddos' strength and resilience for them, that I find the motivation to give my best efforts.

  1. Since beginning your role at Paradise, what has been your proudest moment at work?

My proudest moment at Paradise Dermatology was keeping our promise to Nicole, our dearest friend who lost her battle with ovarian cancer. To honor her loving memory and to support her young son, Alex, we organized and held a very special fundraiser in a flash. Dr. Pennie was incredibly generous to double all the funds collected by matching them. It was an amazing moment for the Paradise team and something that will certainly be remembered for a long time to come.

  1. What do Paradise patients mean to you?

Most of my time at work is spent in surgical rooms where patients are fearful, anxious, and vulnerable due to the procedure they will undergo. There is nothing more rewarding to me than earning their trust, easing their fears, educating them about their condition and treatment, and oftentimes, being their advocate. My favorite thing about Paradise patients is how engaged they are in their healthcare. I also love to hear the stories they share with me and I am grateful to them for doing so.

  1. What’s your favorite pastime or hobby outside of work?

As I'm back at school to advance in my career, I'm really busy these days, so I don't have time for a big hobby. When I do have free time, I like to hang out with my son and my cat, catch up with my family overseas, socialize with friends, and go to the beach. I also enjoy cooking and am always excited to find good brunch/mimosas spots.

  1. Favorite way to relax on a Sunday night?

On Sunday nights, I leave a few hours unscheduled and free of any commitment. I use this time to relax and recharge by doing whatever I feel like at that moment. It may involve watching movies, playing with my son, taking a walk at the beach, or simply resting my mind with good music.

  1. What’s one skin care product you can’t live without?

I love EltaMD facial sunscreen. There is something special about this sunblock because it is so light and goes right into the skin. It absorbs quickly, feels lightweight, hydrating, and leaves no white cast or odor. EltaMD facial sunscreen contains zinc, which is highly effective at blocking both UVA and UVB rays, making it a great choice for those who are prone to hyperpigmentation.
