Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin Which one is for you?

You have probably heard of Botox® before, the magical treatment that relaxes the lines to give you a natural refreshed look, but this is just one of the few options currently available.

The three most common botulinum toxins for aesthetic purposes are Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®.  The three products although formulated by varying companies all provide the same result, which is the temporary correction of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows. Experienced injectors of these products may also be able to provide off label treatment options.  The results are obtained by blocking nerve signals when injected into a muscle, thus preventing muscle contractions.

One of the differences between these brands is the additives or lack thereof. While Dysport® and Botox® both contain additives, Xeomin® contains only the therapeutic component and no accessory proteins.  Xeomin® and its lack of additives means your body is less likely to become resistant to it or build antibodies.  This is great for those patients who have been doing Botox® or Dysport® for many years and feel like it is not working like it used to.  However, in general, this is a rare occurrence.

Now that we have discussed the differences, lets get to the similarities.  All product onset is anywhere between 24 hours to 4 days with complete result in 2 weeks.  The results last anywhere from 3-5 months.  The longevity of the result really depends on the individual patient with some metabolizing the products quicker than others.
